Cosmic Comics
When I started building My Gnome on the Roam in 2014, the idea of mini-adventures seemed pretty unique. Creating an app that shared daily adventures and a place to journal about the fun and turn it into stories that families could reread and remember seemed far-fetched. Ten years later, it seems like the very thing the world is in need of.
As we researched, collected and created daily adventures for the app, we searched far and wide for ideas that are unique, creative, simple and powerful. Lately, I have been enjoying some adventures of my own, (ones that may be included in the app someday soon. I call them cosmic comics).
This past year has been filled with a countless number of experiences. The decline and death of my mother. Clearing and selling my childhood home. Saying goodbye. To family. To friends. To nearly everything I have known as familiar. Nearly everything I have known as home.
When things feel unfamiliar, we (or at least I) look for comfort. Since the people I most often looked to in those moments were gone, I found myself looking for other things. Sometimes a license plate or the clock on my phone included an interesting number (11:11 anyone?), or a song plays on the radio that carries a special meaning in the moment. Names. Dates. Animals. Just for example. The more I pay attention, the more I have recognized in the middle of a regular day, the Universe sends its own set of cosmic comics. And though clearly they happen all the time, it is the joyful recognition of them that makes my day a little easier to manage. I started writing them down in my gratitude journal. And some days, there are so many that they take up an entire page.
