Dear Gnomies,

This year has been....different.

I’m so many ways. We have never been clearer about the importance of connections, of our values, of what is most important to us/for us. With Christmas just around the corner, I’ve seen some graphic (and hilarious) memes of Elf on the Shelf post mortem. One saying that the Elf didn’t survive the pandemic. One with a picture of chicken bones with an Elf hat saying “the Elf was delish, I had the cookies for dessert. Love, Santa”. I get it. I’ve awakened many nights, forgetting to move the elf until 3 am, or worse, forgetting to move him at all.

I want to take a moment to give some credit where credit is due. Elf on the Shelf did what few companies could...they created a new family tradition. In a world full of a zillion ways to enjoy the holidays, they created a system and plan for families all around the world...a way to add a little more magic to the holidays. That is tough to do. And while families may be “over” the elf magic in their home every night, remember that it was never something you HAVE to do, but something you GET to do for your kids.

Our Family Adventure Kit was built loosely on some of the ideas in Elf on the Shelf. We took some of their ideas and transformed them into something that would work all year, for all kinds of family. Our gnomes are DIY family mascots. No two will ever look quite the same. They can have brown skin, or yellow, or purple or plaid. Our journal takes your adventures and turns them into memories, a simple scrapbook designed to preserve memories simply. The book is also an art project and an invitation to have your own adventures. Even the suitcase is designed to hold souvenirs or adventures your family wants to remember.

What traditions are important in your family? This Thanksgiving, we’re starting a new tradition of our own. We are collecting and cooking some family recipes from our grandmothers and other ancestors. We’re going to take all those recipes and put them on cards and share them with our family. Recipes are a beautiful tradition that we can let slip through our fingers. What traditions can you cultivate this holiday?

We have our own My Gnome on the Roam tradition with our 24 day ADVENTure. 24 days of adventures you can do together in little pockets of time. Just in time for the holiday. Here’s the link. We hope you’ll join us!!
